What is Paint Correction

You see the term "paint correction" thrown around very loosely in this industry. In many cases people are using this term when in reality they are not really doing a paint correction. Below is an example of a paint correction service that was done on a low mileage original paint 1987 Buick Grand National.

Now that we can see the true condition of the finish, we can get to work on the paint correction service. This is various steps of compounding and polishing in order to remove as many flaws as safely possible. Compounding will typically leave the finish hazy due to marring left on the surface caused by either an aggressive compound or pad, such as the photo below.

A true paint correction service is not a quick service and will likely take a few days to complete if done correctly. Unfortunately, a lot of detailers throw this term around quite loosely leading to confusion by most consumers. If your detailer mentions the word glaze while describing their paint correction service, that is a big red flag. If you are properly correcting the finish, you should not need to use glazes or fillers to mask or hide imperfections in the finish.
